About Polkadot
Polkadot is a next-generation blockchain protocol that connects multiple specialized blockchains into one unified network. It’s developed by the Web3 Foundation and led by Dr. Gavin Wood, who co-founded Ethereum. The main goal of Polkadot is to create a fully decentralized web where users have complete control. By allowing different blockchains to work together, Polkadot tackles challenges like scalability, security, and innovation that earlier blockchain networks faced.
Objectives of polkadot.airlyft.one
The website polkadot.airlyft.one is a dedicated portal for users to explore and interact with the Polkadot ecosystem. It features a curated list of communities and campaigns, making it easier for people to discover various Polkadot projects.
By offering educational resources, interactive experiences, and reward-based activities all in one place, the site aims to welcome new users, boost engagement, and seamlessly connect with the wider Polkadot network. This aligns with Polkadot’s vision of promoting interoperability and decentralized participation while providing an easy gateway for community involvement.
Challenges
-
Integration with Multiple Polkadot Projects: Making everything work smoothly across different Polkadot parachains, each with unique features, was quite complex. The site needed to support various community campaigns while staying compatible with Polkadot’s decentralized infrastructure.
-
Scalability for High User Traffic: We anticipated high traffic from users participating in multiple campaigns at once. Designing a backend that could handle thousands of users simultaneously was crucial to maintain performance and reliability.
-
Customizable User Experience: Each campaign had its own branding, quest types, and reward mechanisms. Building a platform that offered both consistency and customization for these diverse needs was a significant challenge.
-
Authentication Using Substrate Wallets: Implementing a secure login system compatible with wallets like PolkadotJS, SubWallet, and Talisman required technical finesse. Ensuring that users could log in easily and securely was a top priority.
-
Streamlined Onboarding for New Users: We wanted to make it simple for newcomers to get involved. The site needed an intuitive onboarding process that reduced the learning curve while providing detailed information about Polkadot and its projects.
-
Incorporating On-Chain and Off-Chain Validations: We had to design a robust system to verify both on-chain actions (like token transfers and staking) and off-chain actions (like social media tasks). This was essential to ensure fair distribution of rewards.
-
Compliance with Branding and Community Guidelines: Adhering to Polkadot’s branding and community guidelines added another layer of complexity. It was important to make sure all campaigns and content met these standards to maintain consistency with Polkadot’s values
Building polkadot.airlyft.one with AirLyftX
To bring polkadot.airlyft.one to life, our team used AirLyftX technology and took a strategic approach to meet Polkadot’s specific needs. This site was crafted to be a central hub for users to explore and engage with Polkadot’s diverse projects. Here’s how we did it:
Seamless Integration with the Polkadot Ecosystem We focused on integrating the site with Polkadot’s relay chain and multiple parachains. This involved developing custom modules to interact with Substrate-based projects, ensuring everything worked together smoothly.
User Authentication via Substrate Wallets We built a secure authentication system that supports wallets like PolkadotJS, SubWallet, and Talisman. This allows users to log in effortlessly using their Polkadot wallet credentials and participate in campaigns.
Scalable Architecture for High Traffic By leveraging AirLyftX’s microservices-based backend and Kubernetes-powered infrastructure, we designed the site to handle high user traffic. This ensures thousands of users can join campaigns at the same time without any issues.
On-Chain and Off-Chain Validation Systems We implemented advanced mechanisms to validate both on-chain actions (such as token transfers and staking) and off-chain actions (like social media engagement). This ensures fairness and transparency in how rewards are distributed.
Efficient Reward Distribution System The platform enables automated reward distribution directly to users’ wallets. Participants can claim their rewards seamlessly after completing campaign objectives. Plus, the site allows for the creation of AssetHub NFTs directly from the AirLyftX platform. These NFTs, issued as Proof of Achievements (POAs), add an extra layer of gamification and value for participants, enhancing engagement and loyalty.
Results & Outcomes
Centralized Campaign Hub The subdomain serves as a unified platform for various campaigns, facilitating active participation across the Polkadot community. Notably, Polimec utilized this platform for their ambassador programs, and The Kus distributed a rare Inter Miami Jersey through it. Currently, over 40 Polkadot projects engage with their communities via this centralized hub.
PolkAchievers Campaign In August and September 2024, the inaugural PolkAchievers Campaign brought together 15 projects from the Polkadot ecosystem. This collaborative effort attracted 14,036 participants who completed 47,876 verified quests out of 76,463 initiated, resulting in over 316,000 page views. Participants minted 1,548 AssetHub NFTs, such as Talisman PAT and Astar PAT, serving as Proof of Presence tokens.
